At Asbury, we want to fulfill the Lord’s command to be “a house of prayer for all peoples.” To do this our members need to know how to enjoy prayer and understand it is much more than just something to mark off on a daily “to do” list. We want prayer for our people to be a lifestyle not an unfruitful activity.

Through this ministry we want to offer within Asbury the opportunity to grow in our understanding of the joy of communing with God, to raise up intercessors across all age groups including children and youth, provide training through studies, events, and special times of teaching. We also desire to establish associations with local and regional churches and prayer ministries to strengthen Asbury and affect our city, state, and nation by releasing the power of God through prayer.

MISSION OF ASBURY PRAYER TEAM

To train, equip, and involve each person attending Asbury in a personal life of prayer and faith making this Church a house of prayer.

PURPOSE OF ASBURY PRAYER TEAM

Establish the prayers of each member of Asbury as our Church’s foundation with:

  • all members praying in faith and unity, releasing the power of the Holy Spirit
  • each member experiencing prayer as communion with God
  • each member learning to recognize and obey the prompting of the Holy Spirit
  • each member ministering to others in prayer and faith
  • support and bring unity within the various ministries and campuses
  • to maintain a covering of prayer and protection over the pastors, staff, ministry leaders, and their families
KEY VERSES:

“…for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.” Isa. 56:7, Mark 11:17

“The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].” James 5:16b (Amplified)

MISCELLANEOUS REGULAR PRAYER EVENTS:

Fire Fall Down – a 24 hour period of praise and prayer involving all campuses each spring and tied in with our 40 days of prayer and fasting.

40 Days of Prayer and Fasting – a forty day period in which the members of Asbury are called to fast and pray as a congregation for our church, our city, and nation.

Prayer Walks – times for members to gather to walk through and pray for the neighborhoods around the church campuses.

Weekly studies – usually held as a part of the Wednesday night studies at each campus.

Special speakers/teachers on prayer – our goal is to bring individuals from outside our Church once or twice each year to teach and encourage our members about prayer.

Operation Rolling Thunder – Asbury is involved with this effort which involves individual Churches within a city or county to join together to have continuous prayer for their area 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Currently, members of Asbury pray and cover the 6th of each month. If you are interested in taking an hour once a month, please contact the Church office.

Prayer for individuals with specific needs – we coordinate times at the Church or in an individual’s home to have a small group come together to pray for healing or other specific needs being faced by a person or family. James 5: 13-15 promises that if someone calls for the elders to pray, that “the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up.”

Weekly prayer requests, intercession, and encouragement – members and visitors are encouraged to fill out prayer request cards at our services or phone the Church office. The requests are then prayed over by the staff and other intercessors. Those submitting requests with contact information also receive notes of encouragement from a member of the prayer team.

DELIVERANCE MINISTRY:

The Deliverance Ministry is activated on behalf of people who request prayer for the breaking of a stronghold in their lives. A simple definition of a stronghold is anything that takes the place of God in a person’s life and prevents them from achieving God’s plan for their life. If you or someone you know is struggling with a stronghold please email Pastor Gordon McClure for more information on how Asbury’s Deliverance Ministry can help.

PROPHETIC MINISTRY:

Asbury Church is committed to education regarding and the demonstration of Prophetic Gifts. The Prophetic Ministry serves to encourage growth of this Spiritual Gift in its members and also desires to bring greater understanding to this often misunderstood dynamic of the Christian walk.
